We are recruiting for a Criminal Justice Unit Casework Officer based at Portsmouth Central, in this role you will provide an efficient and effective service through the preparation of case files and case progression duties. To meet the necessary deadlines and ensure a quality service is provided to all stakeholders in accordance with the relevant Service Level Agreements.

Key tasks will include:

Deliver complete and accurate prosecution files, as per standard directions, improving quality when required to enhance successful prosecution rates, obtain the outstanding evidence required and prepare the file to the standard fit for prosecution within mandated timescales, liaise with the Crown Prosecution Service, undertake further evidential enquiries via the OIC and respond to those enquiries within agreed time-scales, conduct police national computer checks and provide relevant information and/or Bad Character schedules to the Crown Prosecution Service, Her Majesty’s Court Services, Probation Service and Defence practitioners, in compliance with the Data Protection Act and identify and priorities specific casework, such as Domestic Violence, Prolific Persistent Offenders, Young Offenders, and formally notifying the Crown Prosecution Service of such cases.

As well as, acquire and utilise a basic knowledge of legal points to prove to ensure key evidence accompanies all first hearing files, liaise with Her Majesty’s Prison Service to ascertain prisoner location, prepare Home Office Production Orders for prisoners to provide evidence in court, provide evidence to Line Managers of any recurring quality issues noted on files and create and maintain all relevant records in accordance with the record management system (RMS) and case management system (CMS) convention, ensuring RMS and CMS is effectively maintained in respect of accuracy and quality of data and compliance.

QCF Level 2 (3 passes) OR work experience that may be deemed to have brought the post holder up to a comparable level.
Minimum 7-12 months experience working in a busy office environment.
