ACRO Criminal Records Office is a national police unit that’s ‘fundamental to keeping the public safe’ and provides an ‘excellent’ service to forces in the UK. 

Part of our mission is to provide effective and responsible criminal records information services.

We’re therefore looking for an Information Manager who can ensure we are meeting our compliance, data protection and other relevant legislative obligations to the highest standards.

About you

You will have sound professional judgment and be able to evidence your experience of working in the field of data protection. As well as a knowledge of the existing relevant legislation, you will also need to maintain a specialist and technical knowledge of the forthcoming General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Bill. A working knowledge of the Management of Police Information (MOPI) and the Protection of Freedoms Act would be an advantage.

You will be expected to work closely with the National Police Chiefs’ Council’s Data Protection Officer and ACRO’s Senior Management team to provide advice and guidance across the organisation. Strong communication skills are therefore essential.

You need good leadership skills to manage a team that undertakes national records management tasks on behalf of UK police forces and you will be responsible for reviewing ACRO’s information sharing agreements, so an eye for detail is highly advantageous.

You need the skills and ability to train staff in all aspects of current and forthcoming data protection requirements and be able to co-ordinate investigations into incidents of information compromise, data loss and non-compliance.

In addition we expect that you work with the greatest level of professionalism, and integrity. Knowledge of police organisations and structures is also advantageous. 

Suitable training can be provided to ensure the successful applicant is fully conversant with any legislative requirements.

You will also have the opportunity to input and advise on matters of information management and data protection throughout the UK police service at a national level.

Educated to QCF Level 6/degree level, or relevant professional work experience deemed to have brought the post holder to a comparable level.
Professional knowledge of the Data Protection and Human Rights Acts 1998, GDPR, and privacy legislation. Possess highly effective interpersonal, analytical skills and communication skills, both verbal and written, and has the ability to influence senior management. To demonstrate ability to present reports recommending improvements in processes and data recording to comply with national and local requirements to senior staff reducing the business risk. Experience of training delivery and presentations. Experience of leading and managing a team
